Joel Kern (b.4/91) is a New Orleanian who was displaced by Hurricane Katrina in 2005. The storm led to a journey propelled by a dream to play professional ice hockey. Joel lived throughout North America hosted by families from all over the world. This upbringing led to enriching experiences that would become the inspiration to his life as a designer. In 2010, Joel made the transition from sport to design in the eclectic town of Athens, Ga. There he would go on to receive a BFA in Graphic Design from the Lamar Dodd School of Art. He started his professional design career at the Athens-based design studio, Young Athenians Design Agency. After 12 years away from New Orleans he joined the creative department at Krewe, a fashion eyewear brand, to run the design + art direction. Currently, he is pursuing an MFA in Graphic Design at the Rhode Island School of Design.
