This was a solution for creating a system of communication in the year 2050: a universal language. This idea was conceived in spring of 2015 after reading Graphic Design Theory: Readings From the Field in which El Lissitzky has an essay titled "Our Book". In this essay he makes these three statements: (1) the hieroglyph book is international (at least in its potentiality), (2) the letter book is national, and (3) the coming book will be a-national: for in order to understand it, one must at least learn. This sparked the idea to pull these concepts out of the written book and try to apply them to language. The Chinese language was a large influence as well. I used the Chinese grid system along with its pictorial characteristics as inspiration for Symbolify.
